Broad & Banks Seafood: Fresh, Delicious Seafood in New Orleans

I walked into this corner store on the last day of the first month of the year (2026), and the line was long but bearable. Everyone mostly ordered the same--gumbo. When it was my turn, I ordered the same. The gumbo consisted of hot sausage, smoked sausage, shrimp, and chicken. Delicious!

Tried a little of everything. Gumbo mildly spicy but delicious. Fish and shrimp were also good. The chicken wings were extra large and hard to chew but the breading was good.

I have been coming here for years...and lots of other people have been doing the same. When ordering gumbo, you can request no sausage, or no shrimp, or no chicken. How nice is that? Highly recommend. But order your po' boy at the cashier. This is a change from last time.

Havent' been back here in years, since the hospital was being build. Red beans & rice just as good as i remember. If i didn't live so far, 100% i would be coming here for the food.

RUN dont walk!!! This place has amazing food. The smothered pork chops are phenomenal, I’ve gone back to this places twice so far on vacation to get them. The gumbo was great. The catfish, AMAZING! Fried rice was fresh lots of flavor, onion heavy. Lots of different drinks to choose from some snacks to add. The line was very long, we went during lunch time but it moves fast. Speak up so the ladies can hear you!

Broad and Banks Seafood is a truly local establishment. You won't find tourists here except those most willing to venture into real New Orleans. The sandwiches and gumbo were recommended to me so I tried the gumbo which did not disappoint. It's a little thinner than most you'll find but the flavor is great. There is clearly an Asian influence in the cooking because you'll find fried rice, egg rolls, and lo mein next to gumbo, fried chicken, and red beans. It's truly worth a stop if you want a glimpse of the real taste of local NOLA.

This place is a hidden gem, tucked away in the back of a store and easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. But once you find it, you’re in for a treat. The counter-service setup is simple and no-frills, but the food is anything but. The gumbo is rich, flavorful, and tastes like it’s been simmering all day. The po’boys are authentic, generously filled, and perfectly dressed. Every bite feels like the real deal. Totally unexpected, incredibly delicious, and absolutely worth seeking out. Don’t let the location fool you — this spot delivers big flavor.

Very clean establishment didn't see anything out of place. Food area was pretty clean. It was worth ordering food from the sandman because of the cleanness. All selection. Was mouth watering. The gumbo is a big tradition. The boil shrimp is my favorite. The chicken and sausage Gumbo is a New Orleans specialty nationally known and it's many other ways to prepare gumbo in New Orleans .Satisfying and will recommend my friends to go try their food.
